You and I are currently experiencing the “dog days” of quarantine. Did you know that the word “Quarantine” is a term derived from the Italian word quaranta? Originally, it meant 40 days of isolation to control an outbreak of a contagious disease. Today, the word is still used to describe this COVID-19 pandemic where communities are asked to shelter in place, not clear as to how long.
Now, almost at the 40th day, you may feel the magnified stagnation and inactivity that can challenge even the most patient amongst us. Still uncertainty remains the sentiment of the day as you undergo a period in history that is anything but normal. Moreover, the delicate balance of public health concerns against financial turmoil lead to feelings of powerlessness to move forward. With this backdrop, how do you prepare for opportunities as April showers end, so that you can enthusiastically anticipate the May flowers to come?
One of the greatest scientists of our time, Albert Einstein poignantly said, “Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” So in this vein, during these last days of April, it’s time to step back and consciously pause into clarity. Are you ready to detox to empower yourself to choose harmony, embrace simplicity and declutter your life? In four simple steps, you can make this next month one of the best yet with contemplative awareness:
1. DETOX YOUR TIME
– Set up a plan for your week
– Set aside time each day for meditation or prayer
– Make sure to plan for fun, uplifting activity during your week – something to look forward to
– Say NO to things that don’t serve you well
2. DETOX YOUR SPACE
– Get outside for a walk if you’ve been inside too long
– Declutter your physical closet – let go of those things you no longer use
– Declutter your rooms – time to get two bags – throw away and give away – others could use what you no longer use
– Set up a sacred space in the chaos – your go-to sanctuary
3. DETOX YOUR PAST
– Choose a good habit to replace one that did not serve you well – do it for three weeks
– Release the negative chatter – that is not who you are
– Replace with positive affirmations – use a daily mantra
– Let go of those limiting beliefs – you are possible- what you believe you can achieve
4. DETOX YOUR PRESENT
– Start with an attitude of gratitude – write out 5 things that you are grateful for
– Do a self check as to the vibrational frequency – be honest – that is how you make adjustments
– Commit acts of kindness and serve others – shifts your focus on helping
– Time to get intentional – ask, believe, get ready to receive
– Exercise every day – get up and move – you’ll feel better
You can feel forward momentum as you create your life with focus, no one can stop you – not even a pandemic. Sometimes you just need a boost or a regimen to help clear out the toxins so that you can clean up your energy. These are just four suggestions. Pick your process as to what works for you. Once you start to free yourself from what holds you down, then you allow magic and miracles to flow into the empty spaces. The Roman philosopher Seneca said, “He is most powerful who has power over himself.” Even though you are stuck at home, you still are powerful over your thoughts and deeds to create a beautiful life. Doing a detox and honest review can really help you figure out what works and what does not. There, you prepare for the opportunity in the middle of difficulty to awaken your creativity so that you can enjoy the beauty that comes when the weeds are pulled, sun feeds the seeds planted, and you get to grow.
